BPO as excellent career Choice

Since Information technology has become an integral part of our everyday life, there is great need of trained professionals who can work in different IT sphere. BPO or Business process Outsourcing has emerged out as a good career option for many well educated youths. In India, we have a large pool of English-speaking and talented people who need quick jobs to support their families.

This sector has become a boon for them.  On the other hand, BPO sector needs large number of English-speaking IT-savvy people who can work according to the different time zones in the world.  Apart from BPO, these people are absorbed in ITES (IT Enabled Services) too.

Type of Jobs

ITES includes all the activities that are  accomplished using information technology such as inbound and outbound, voice and web-based call centers (handling customer support, technical support, transaction processing), animation and multimedia, medical and legal transcription, content creation, debt recovery, loan approval, back-end operations like revenue accounting, insurance claims and payroll processing, e-learning and creating legal, medical and other databases.

Apart from these areas, there are a few other opportunities that have come up  on the higher end of BPO sector such as customer analytics, market research, equity research, biotech research, bio-informatics and more.

The work environment at call centers

People who work in banks, credit card or telecom companies interact with customers face to face.

However, when you work in call centre, you talk to the customers over phone or through internet from a remote locations, solve their problems and provide support. Call centers work round the clock and employees work on shift basis. The environment is clean, air conditioned and ergonomically designed. Some more reputed call centers offer various recreational facilities also for the workers such as gyms, coffee shops and more.  Atmosphere is professional yet informal. Almost all the call centers provide pick and drop for their employees.

However, if you see its flip side, despite having good work environment and good money, this job can be monotonous due to routine work, long hours, night shifts, unhealthy eating habits and high speed work. If this job is fun, it is hard work also.

Employment Opportunities in BPO sector

BPO and ITES sectors are brimming with lakhs of jobs annually. They are among those sectors which absorb largest number of educated youths in India. This segment is regarded as the one of the most significant business opportunities for the Indian software industry.

Qualifications

To work in call centre, you need to have good English speaking background, though graduation is not a condition.  Call centers look for candidates having great confidence, presence of mind, basic computer skills, excellent spoken English and decent voice quality.
